Don't buy any books this week from Changing Times

This may sound like an usual request coming from the owner of a bookstore, but then I have never thought of Changing Times as your ordinary bookstore.

Most people come in and buy a book because they are looking for something or to change in some way. They may want to be more compassionate so they buy a book from the Dali Lama, Thich Hnat Hanh, or Pema Chodron. Perhaps they are looking to really spice up their live with fun ideas so they turn to books by SARK. They may want to forgive someone, or themselves, so they look at Radical Forgiveness by Colin Tippin. Or if they want to understand how their mind creates their experience of life they explore books by Louise Hay, Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford or Wayne Dyer.

The list goes on and on.

And that's my point. The list will always go on and on because that is the nature of the mind. It is always looking for something more. Not because more is better, although that idea is very seductive to the mind. But rather just because movement is the nature of relative life.

So this week if any question comes up, don't come into Changing Times looking for a book that might help. Instead, just sit with the question, give it room, give it space. Pretend it's a dear friend coming to simply hang out for a while. Really, really just hang out with it.

See, the constant questioning, even spiritual questioning, can actually be the ego's way of keeping us from opening to our own inner knowingness, our own innate wisdom. That space wherein we reside. In this space, there are no questions.

It's always a good practice to occasionally stop trying to answer all the questions the mind comes up with. Let them come and have their play. Or if the mind is hanging on to a question simply ask your mind, "Who has this question?" or "What is it that needs to have this question answered?" and see what happens.

So this week, don't buy any books from Changing Times. However, I still need to pay my bills so if you want to buy some incense or candles or crystals, well, that would be appreciated.
