Riding with the Soul
How does one nurture, honor the soul
When the soul itself is like the wind?
How does one catch the wind?
One, of course, doesn’t.
For as soon as one closes one’s hands upon the wind
It ceases to be wind.
So it might be with our own soul
The moment we try to catch it
To understand its nature
It has already moved elsewhere
Perhaps we are like a child
Riding in the family car
Looking out the back
Watching
The scenery as it falls away.
Perhaps the soul is driving
For it knows the path
We most need to take
Each turn, each freeway
And each side street
And we are left
Trying to make sense of it all
As our life ‘happens’
We perceive it as new
While our soul, facing forward,
Saw it coming
Even as it drove that way
By design.
Perhaps what is required
Is for us to be still, silent
Just for a moment
Perfectly still
Without judgments
Without complaints
Without expectations
Perhaps then we may turn
Inside ourselves
And sit up front
And enjoy the ride
With our soul.
Enjoy life's sacred journey.
