Outlook for the New Millenium

As I think about this time in which we live, I realize that we are living in the future. This is it. The future is here and now. Remember 25 years ago when the TV shows portrayed the future with sleek little cars, computerized homes, and metallic clothing? This was the futuristic view of the 21st century. Now here it is - the year 2000, and many of those views have become real. We really are driving those sleek little cars, and what about all that spandex and lycra clothing. There is no doubt computers and the internet are changing the way we live.

We are witnessing the birth of a very exciting time. Not only has increased technology created this excitement, but it is also a time when a shift in consciousness is taking place. For example, the Dalai Lama is one of the most respected and popular spiritual leaders in the world right now. There has never been a time in history when a person with such a loving, caring, spiritual view of life has been so popular with the mainstream. Also, spiritual stores such as Changing Times, and other holistic centers, are everywhere in every city and town. No longer on the fringes, New Age Spirituality has become quite acceptable. Retreats, conferences, seminars, and classes are being offered on just about any subject of spirituality that you can think of.

So just what does this all mean? Well I think that it means something very powerful is happening. We all know that we are also facing some of the most challenging times on the planet. Environmental destruction and overpopulation are reaching epic proportions. At times it feels very scary and overwhelming to think about all the problems. However, this is when I realize how much potential the coming together of science and spirituality has to change the world. With God, or Spirit, all things are possible. Sounds very simple, but let's look at the big picture. The more people bring God or Spirit into their lives, and the more information and technology we have to use as tools, the more we can expect grand things to happen. There are things that we can't even imaging or comprehend right now. Before electricity was invented, no one could have imagined how power could travel through a wire and light up a room. I think the same thing will happen as more people increase their consciousness. New ideas and inventions will have a profound, positive effect on the way we live. Combining the unlimited potential of Spirit with the creativity and intelligence of our high tech society, I believe we have the power to change the world, and we will.
